Planet Weather for the Week of June 10, 2007

SkyWatch -- Moon phase of the week: 6/14 -- The Moon enters her New cycle at 11:13 PM, EDT, at 23 degrees of Gemini. As always, look for her slender crescent low in the West a couple of nights later just after sunset, together with the dim glow of her "dark" portion, actually lit faintly by earthlight. In traditional folklore, this is considered an unlucky time and called "seeing the old Moon in the arms of the new." But it is truly a wonderful phenomenon if you take the pains to notice it and, especially, think about the cause of this odd-seeming sight. 6/12-13 -- Venus passes just about a degree North of the Beehive star cluster in the constellation Cancer on both Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. A star cluster is a kind of "mini galaxy" attached to the Milky Way galaxy and usually containing several thousand closely packed stars. Venus being the brightest light in sky after the Moon is easy to spot, and so can be used to locate both cluster and constellation. 6/13 -- The waning Moon's thin crescent passes less than a degree north of the center of the Pleiades or "Seven Sisters" star pattern at about 9 AM EDT, but you should be able to pick out Moon and stars low in the eastern sky just before dawn. Space news of the week: Space Shuttle Atlantis has successfully launched! As of this writing, the Shuttle has reached orbit and is preparing for her daylong mating dance with the International Space Station, where the seven-person Shuttle crew will replace an expensive set of solar panels. Go out! Look up!

Knowing when VOC Moons occur is a key to planning your astrological week!

The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, or delays. If you want specific outcomes or if timeliness is critical, choose another time if possible. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not necessarily be negative.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday are the most active energetically and potentially most productive days (depending on what you’re doing!) On 6/11/07, the Moon is VOC/Aries from 3:57AM to 7:29AM EDT – on 6/12/07, VOC/Taurus from 7:18PM to 8:24AM EDT, the next morning! – On 6/15/07, VOC/Gemini from 5:59AM to 9:45AM EDT.
PlanetPatterns:
The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary pattern comes along to shift the energy.
Sun in mutable, air Gemini sextile (60deg.) Mars in cardinal, fire Aries @ 20deg. on 6/11/07 @ 6:28AM EDT. The opportunity exists to make more of yourself and your life through new bits of information and bold or courageous action. You have a choice to take the lead.
Sun/Gemini sextile (60deg.) Saturn in fixed, fire Leo @ 20deg. on 6/11/07 @ 3:40PM EDT. You’re seeking something definite, permanent, certainly a commitment of sorts, a contract, something to build upon. What represents stability in your life now? What, who can you count on? Are you accountable?
Mars/Aries trine (120deg.) Saturn in fixed, fire Leo @ 20deg. on 6/11/07 @ 6:44PM EDT. Your actions want results. You have a firm grasp on the outcome you want from a particular situation. Presentation is essential. Make it as perfect as possible.
Sun/Gemini trine (120deg.) Neptune in fixed, air Aquarius @ 21deg. on 6/13/07 @ 3:40PM EDT. While Neptune is in Aquarius, it makes this aspect with the Sun each year. This is one of meeting the mystery, of softening one’s view, of opening our compassion and deepening our understanding. We begin to realize that information (Gemini) is worthless unless it is used to make life better for all. You may feel wistful, idealistic, or disappointed (or all at the same time), especially if this aspect taps into your chart in a significant way. There’s a tendency to consider the dream of your life and whether your dream fits the reality. Even if it’s not a perfect match, have faith and follow the promptings of your soul, it will always lead you in the right direction.
Mars/Aries sextile (60deg.) Neptune/Aquarius @ 21deg. on 6/13/07 @ 4:37PM EDT. Here’s another dose of Neptune, this week. The opportunity exists for you to evaluate your direction and its relationship to your dreams or ideals. You may be surprised to come across an insight as you travel the road of your goals. You may discover a detour that you can’t resist, a path that beckons irresistibly. Detours have a way of taking us out of our normal routine and diverting our attention. We can choose to be annoyed or we can wonder why we find ourselves in this unusual place or space. Enjoy the opportunity to uncover more of who you are.
Mercury turns Stationary Retrograde (Rx) @ 11 Cancer on 6/15/07 @ 7:40PM EDT.
Mercury entered cardinal, water Cancer on 5/28/07 @ 8:56PM until 8/4/07. Ready, set, go retrograde! OK, we’re at that moment again – things are slowing down can you feel it? Those who are attuned in certain ways can always feel Mercury slowing down at least a week before it actually turns retrograde. Now don’t fret, life goes on, and so does business – we need to be more careful when making promises, or appointments, or commitments and in Cancer, we are more concerned about our comfort than speed. Mercury Rx helps in that department, because more than anything else you can say about it – life does slow down during this Rx cycle. Now think about this as a good thing. Most of the time we’re zooming along at our usual busiest pace – Mercury Rx begins and that pace just does not work as well. We are forced to pause and focus our minds and energies in a different way. The planetary message asks you to pay attention to what is happening now, rather than what you wish were happening, and that is the key to managing this cycle.
NewsBits: James Gandolfini aka Tony Soprano! Well, as they say – all good things (and “bad guys”) must come to an end. HBO shocked us with the violence-packed and psychologically rich Sopranos for six seasons. The grand finale is this coming Sunday. For those of you who have enjoyed the show with fascination, you may be interested in the chart of the man who plays mob boss, Tony Soprano. James Gandolfini rocketed to stardom in this role as the ruthless (yet oddly loveable) mobster, who struggles to understand his psychological conflicts and visits a psychiatrist regularly. Gandolfini was perfect for the role. He was born on 9/18/61, in Westwood, New Jersey, time unknown. His Sun in Virgo, and most likely (not knowing time of birth), Moon in Capricorn, gives him that solid, down-to-earth, pragmatic, matter of fact, whatever-is, way of relating. The Moon in Capricorn can be someone who compartmentalizes emotional factors in one’s life and can cut off feelings when necessary, or seem cold, unresponsive and hard-nosed. The character of Tony Soprano certainly exemplifies that trait in his cold-blooded violence, taking care of mob-business and revenge for breaches of loyalty, or simply business expediency. Along with the Moon, Gandolfini has Saturn and Jupiter conjunct in Capricorn too! This guy means business, he’s serious about goals and he doesn’t really like change too much, being very habitual. Gandolfini’s patterns work well with the character, Tony Soprano. Knowing Tony Soprano, you can see his unpredictable side in Gandolfini’s pattern of Venus conjunct Uranus in Leo. This is someone who wants excitement in love, being king and expecting adulation and royal treatment. Can a mafia mob boss be fair? Gandolfini was bon with Mars conjunct Mercury in Libra square Saturn and Jupiter in Capricorn, which presents quite a struggle between being fair and doing mob-business, which is not always mutually exclusive. It also gives him major charm and schmooze-ability. He’s quick and understands his opponent well. Powerful, deliberate, alert and unpredictable with an almost painfully childlike side, struggling to understand the role he finds himself in – that’s our Tony Soprano and Gandolfini’s portrayal, fits very well with his natal chart.
