Planet Weather for the Weeks of June 8, 2008
SkyWatch – Moon
phase of the week: 6/10 -- The Moon enters Her First Quarter cycle at 20 Virgo,
at 11:04 AM EDT. Skywatching events of the week: 6/8 – Saturn with its
yellowish tinge is visible upper left of the beautiful Crescent Moon tonight.
Regulus, one of the royal stars of the constellation Leo, is almost directly
above the Moon, even closer than Saturn. 6/9 – Look to the lower right of the Moon
for yellowish Saturn, the royal star, Regulus and reddish Mars. 6/13 – The
official Summer Solstice is but a week away and the Northern hemisphere is
experiencing the longest days of the year. Today the Sun rises earliest at
40degrees North latitude. Earliest sunrise has already happened for those South
of 40 degrees, and will happen later for those farther north. Spacenews:
Astronauts spent 7 hours and 11 minutes spacewalking, repairing items, and
installing television cameras on the International Space Station this week. The
Phoenix Mars Lander’s arm is busy checking soil properties and attempting to
reach sub-surface ice discovered in a 2002 Mars mission to the red planet. Go
out! Look up!
Knowing when VOC Moons occur is key to
planning your successful week!
The Void-of-course (VOC) Moon is
a kind of limbo. As it reaches the end of a sign, the Moon makes no major
aspect to another planet before it enters the next sign. VOC is best for less
outcome-oriented activity, since VOC often means detours, distractions, drifting,
or delays. If you want specific outcomes, or if timeliness is critical, don’t
use a VOC Moon time. VOC is best for processing, imagining, creating, and
open-ended activities, like parties, research, or cleaning your desk/closet for
instance! It is said that when a new action is initiated during VOC, “nothing
will come of it,” or energies go in unplanned directions, which may not
necessarily be negative.

Week of 6/8/08 – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
and Friday are the most active energetically and potentially very productive days
– more Moon or planetary aspects for engagement and/or producing results. On 6/8/08,
the Moon is VOC/Leo from 11:41AM to 10:01PM EDT – On 6/10/08, VOC/Virgo from
3:42PM to 5:55AM EDT (next day) – On 6/13/08, VOC/Libra from 5:16AM to 4:53PM EDT.
PlanetPatterns:
The following planetary energy patterns flavor the day
and are felt or experienced often hours before and after their exact
culmination. They remain effective, certainly until the next major planetary
pattern comes along to shift the energy gears.
Sun in mutable,
air, Gemini conjunct (0deg.) Venus/Gemini @ 19deg. on 6/9/08 @ 12:22AM EDT. This is
an annual conjunction, and signifies a new start to a cycle of harmony and
compromise we have reached and recognized in the past year. The essence of the
aspect is cooperation and communication, and the willingness to see both sides
as having not only equal rights on an issue, but also equal value in their
needs, wants and requirements. Energies are focused for equitable resolution
while inequality will stick out like a sore thumb and be fully apparent.
Venus and the Sun in Gemini both square (90deg.)
Uranus in mutable, water Pisces @ 22deg. on 6/12 and 6/13/08 respectively. Uranus in aspect to any planet always brings a
surprise or unexpected and heightened awareness. Since the combined quality of
Sun and Venus is to express harmony and to cooperate, the hard angle to Uranus
will upset the apple cart. Uranus will expose the flaws in the compromise that
is forged merely to keep the peace or where compromise is used to avoid
confrontation. Uranus is the awakener and the truth-seeker. If we have been too
complacent and our motives are sloppy or not clear, Uranus will challenge that
self-proposed authority, and seek to correct the malfunction.
Venus and the
Sun in Gemini both trine (120deg.) Neptune in fixed, air Aquarius @ 24deg. on
6/13 and 6/14/08 respectively. Talk about flip-flopping. This is a complex week. Both Venus and the Sun having squared Uranus,
are now meeting with Neptune. The aspect angle is a bit easier, with the focus
to soften any hard edges left by the strain of any unexpected occurrences, or
hard truth. This aspect requests that you take the high road and make note of
any spiritual lessons that may need to be gleaned from recent events in your
life. Compassion both for our own failings, and those of others who have been
involved with us in recent events, is called forth.
Pluto retrogrades back into mutable,
fire Sagittarius on 6/13/08 @ 11:46PM EDT until 9/8/08. This is the biggest event of the week! Pluto
takes its last stand in the last 2 degrees of Sagittarius. It will never pass through
Sagittarius again for another 248 years! One thing astrology teaches us is that
each moment is truly unique and will never repeat again in exactly the same
way. We’ve mentioned before that 2008 is a transitional year, in terms of a
vast sea change in the collective psyche. We’ve seen that play out in events in
the news. A collective cycle, Pluto in Sagittarius, which began in 1995, is wrapping
up. Pluto retraces the degrees of 29, 28 Sagittarius which echoes back to
between 12/1/08 and 1/25/09, when it first transited those degrees. This may
hearken a summer of some euphoria and a temporary ease in the economic
pressures we’ve been feeling, but unfortunately, only temporarily. Come the end
of November 2008, Pluto re-enters Capricorn for the extent of its 16 years and
we must reckon with the cumulative result of our past actions and the specter
of seriously limited resources, and earth changes, in any number of ways.
NewsBits: Obama Wins, Hillary Concedes! That Pluto has done it again. Even demoted, Pluto
remains powerful! Obama has been on high magnetic Pluto resonance vibration
since the end of January, when Pluto fist entered Capricorn and opposed his
Venus @ 0 Cancer and magnetized it. That’s when Obama started to really surge
and here we are looking at the result of that infusion. He wins the nomination
with Pluto retrograde, sitting again at 0 Capricorn! We have made history (not completely
herstory at this moment in time – but a preparation for, nevertheless). For the
first time, we have overcome the bondage of race relations and nominated an
African-American to lead the Democratic ticket for President of the United
States. Like a true Leo, Obama has risen to the occasion and inspired us with
his amazing speeches and words that seem so fresh and sincere, along with a
measure of respect, sorely needed in political life. And of course, he will
make mistakes, all politicians do and all people do – it’s human nature. Obama’s
recent blunder in insisting that Jerusalem not be divided, but remain the
capital of Israel, was unfortunate. The division of Jerusalem, which holds the
most sacred ground and shrines for both Israelis and Palestinians, was one part
of most recent peace effort discussions between the two sides. So it is
disturbing that Obama in speaking to Israeli Americans, was willing to alienate
Palestinians with that sentiment. Hillary Clinton conceded and urged her
supporters to rally behind Barak Obama in a rousing speech on Saturday 6/7,
with the Moon and Mars in Leo, both close to her natal Mars/Saturn/Pluto in Leo
conjunction. Hillary, of course, could be Vice President, the dream-ticket
that’s been proposed for some time. There are two ways (or more) to look at
this: Obama could combine the strengths
of the two campaigns and bridge the gap between the old way (his words) and his
new ways of doing politics, or he could opt for someone with less baggage and an
outlook more reflective of his overall campaign. In any case, he has a tough
choice and a most important decision to make in the next weeks. Mars enters
Virgo, Obama’s birth Mars position on 7/1/08 and I expect we will have a
decision from him close to that date. We all know that the Vice President must
be ready and able to take the helm as President, if needed. Strong Presidential
leadership and credentials are just as important in selecting a VP.
